Swiss ski lift manufacturer takes safety and comfort to new heights

Jumping up or down from a fast-moving ski lift while still dealing with skis and poles can become a daring venture even for die-hard winter sports fans. But it is precisely for this problem that the decoupled chairlifts of the Swiss company Bartholet exist: Here, the armchairs approach the skier very slowly at first, but then quickly carry him away. For ski resorts, this technology offers with flexible speed in addition to the comfort, a simple and safe operation as well as an improved durability of the entire facility

“Maintenance costs are always an important aspect,” explains Thomas Spiegelberg, Head of Sales at Bartholet. “Our simple yet unique knee lever gripping system is less prone to wear and tear on the rope and clamp than conventional fastening systems, which allows longer maintenance intervals and increases the service life of the entire installation.” Since the introduction of the detachable chairlifts in 2008, conventional lifts have been replaced by a Bartholet solution in many well-known ski resorts in France and Switzerland. At the end of 2009, for example, a Bartholet SBK6, a decoupled 6-seater chairlift, was installed in the French ski, surfing and wellness resort Of Les Arcs in Savoy. The results were impressive: the transport capacity doubled from 1,500 to 3,000 people per hour, and at the same time the travel time decreased from 11 to 4.5 minutes.

In the Serre Chevalier ski area in the French Alps, the fixed-fixed lift system was also replaced by a SBK6 chairlift as part of a major modernisation project. The new system now transports up to 2,800 passengers per hour at a speed of 5.5 meters per second. And in Crans Montana, Switzerland, the SBK4 model, a four-seater chairlift, was installed at the beginning of 2010. While gliding up the slopes in style, skiers can enjoy the breathtaking panorama of the Matterhorn and the Mont Blanc mountains.

Safety takes the place.

Comfort is also important, but for Bartholet, passenger safety is paramount. Electric motors provide the primary energy for the carousel; These motors are supported by John Deere PowerTech 6090H and 6068H spare motors. In the event of a power failure, the John Deere motors can be coupled to the drive mechanism to generate the pressure required for the evacuation.

Regular tests ensure that the John Deere engines work flawlessly at all times. And it was precisely this reliability that led Bartholet to turn to The John Deere engine distributor Hamilton AG. “We knew that John Deere’s engines work reliably even in extreme cold – and even in very hot environments. Our passengers must be able to rely on the fact that they are absolutely safe even at an altitude of 2,300 metres. With our lifts and thanks to the support of the John Deere engines, they can enjoy their holiday stress-free,” Spiegelberg concludes with a smile.
